Let's face it. Kids LOVE screen time! Vivo Harmonics now has a studio iPad, which can be used for portions of the class to help reinforce concepts like note reading, rhythm and theory. I thought I would share my top three "student-approved" apps with you today. They all cost around $5 each, but the last two can be purchased as a bundle for a discounted price.
My most popular app at my studio is Note Rush, which is available for iPhone, iPad and Android. The reason I LOVE this app is because it listens to students as they read and play each note on the piano. Your time will be recorded so you always know when you achieve a new personal best! It's a great alternative to a pack of flashcards and can be enjoyed by students of all ages.
Flashnote Derby is an app for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that turns note reading into a game! The biggest reason I love this app is because you can choose exactly which notes you want to work on identifying. Simply select the notes you wish to practice, and it’s off to the races. Identifying notes correctly will bring your horse closer to the finish line, while incorrect answers cause you to fall behind. I generally use this app for students who are 5-13 years old.
This app is great for beginners learning about rhythm and the different note values! Available for both iPhone and iPad, this app is tons of fun for even the youngest of students.
